Patrick Newsome

Medical Student

About Patrick: Patrick Newsome is a 2nd year medical student at the University of British Columbia. Before medical school, he studied medical biochemistry at the University of British Columbia Okanagan campus. He is eager to gain further experience in understanding the barriers People Living with HIV may face and hopes to use the knowledge gained from this experience in his practice when working with People Living with HIV. Patrick’s experience with EMBARC will help him have a better understanding of clinical research, statistical research involving GMM analyses, and epidemiology. Outside of medical school, Patrick enjoys skiing, playing the piano, travelling, and running.

Patrick’s FLEX project will explore the use of biomarkers to assess the incidence of chronic comorbidities among people living with HIV. At the end of his FLEX project, Patrick hopes to write a paper on this topic with the aid of the EMBARC team.
