Dr. Lima awarded the CANFAR 2020 Innovation Research Grant

This September, Dr. Viviane Lima was awarded the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR) 2020 Innovation Research Grant.

This grant will support research that the EMBARC team is completing to quantify the impact of aging on the population of people living with HIV/AIDS in British Columbia, Canada. The study’s overall goal will be to apply advanced statistical methods to estimate and forecast the incidence, prevalence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life-years associated with chronic diseases among people living with HIV compared to a matched HIV-negative population. This will include examining cardiovascular, kidney, and liver diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, non-AIDS-defining cancers, diabetes mellitus, osteoarthritis, hypertension, and Alzheimer’s and/or non-HIV related dementia. Along with these somatic comorbidities, the group will also examine mental health disorders. This will include schizophrenia, mood and/or anxiety disorders, and personality disorders.

The research team is honored and thankful to CANFAR for their support of our continued research.
